Overflow is a personal note-taking service. You save notes by typing them in the web app or by texting them to the Overflow phone number. This page explains what we collect, how it's used, and the choices you have. The short version: your notes are yours, we use your information only to run Overflow, and we never sell it or share it for marketing.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and password. Passwords are stored in scrambled (hashed) form, so no one can read them.
- Your phone number, if you choose to link it for texting.
- What you save: notes, tags, checklists and photos, whether typed in the app or sent by text.
- Basic technical records such as when a note was created and standard server logs used to keep the service running and secure.
How we use it
- To save your notes and show them back to you.
- To read the texts you send to Overflow and reply to commands like GET, FIND and LIST.
- To sign you in and keep your account secure.
We do not use your notes for advertising, and we do not sell your information.
Text messaging
When you link your phone, you agree to receive text messages from Overflow in reply to the texts you send. Message frequency varies; we only reply when you text us. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help or STOP to stop receiving messages at any time. You can also unlink your phone in Settings.
We do not share your mobile number or text messaging consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are never sold, rented or shared, except with the service providers below that we need to deliver messages.
Who else handles your information
We use a few trusted providers to run Overflow. They process data only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase stores your account, notes and photos.
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Twilio sends and receives text messages.
We may also disclose information if required by law. Overflow's operator has administrator access to the database for maintenance and support, so please don't store passwords, financial details or other highly sensitive information in your notes.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your notes until you delete them. You can delete any note or photo in the app at any time. To delete your whole account and everything in it, email hello@overflownotes.com and we'll remove it within 30 days.
Security
Your data is sent over encrypted connections, and each account can only see its own notes. No service is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Children
Overflow is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
